Press Release: Triathlon Coaching Seminar Leads off Team MPI Events and Camps for 2018


Boise, ID – October 31, 2017 – Team MPI (Multisport Performance Institute) – Team MPI has released its initial event calendar for 2018 that includes a full-day triathlon coaching seminar as well as exciting training camp opportunities for triathletes and mountain bikers.

Coaches (and athletes) are invited to join Team MPI on January 20, 2018 in Houston, Texas for a day of seminars and discussions centered on topics including swim coaching, bike fit, metabolic testing, run training devices, bike power sessions, professional ethics, strength and conditioning, and sports psychology. The coach presenters bring a wide range of certifications and extensive coaching experience and include: Mark Sortino and Chris Palmquist, both USAT Level III Certified Coaches; Dr. Manuel Delgado Gaona, exercise physiologist and physician; Adam Sczech, VFS Master Bike Fitter; Amanda Leibovitz, Certified Consultant of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology; Laura Henry, IRONMAN Certified Coach and NASM Certified Personal Trainer; Allen Stanfield, IRONMAN AWA and multiple USAT All-American; and Mark Turner, IRONMAN Certified Coach, USAT Paratriathlon Certified Coach, and USAT Elite Rules Official. Coach Mark Sortino and Coach Chris Palmquist have contributed to the USAT coaching manuals and have instructed for USAT. Current USAT Coaches can receive 6 CEU’s for attending. The Team MPI Triathlon Spring Training Camp will be held in Henderson, Nevada, just outside of Las Vegas. It offers options for a full 5-day camp February 26 to March 4, or for a mini 3-day camp February 28 to March 4. This camp gives athletes a chance to jump-start their season, gain a fitness boost, and tune up swim, bike, and run technique in a beautiful setting with ideal training weather. This camp is led by Coaches Mark Sortino, Adam Sczech, and Mandi Kowal.

The Team MPI Endurance Mountain Bike Training Camp will take place June 22-24 in Boise, Idaho, led by Coaches Mark Sortino and Adam Sczech. This 3-day camp is great prep for Leadville and similar races with altitudes from 3,000′ – 7,000’+ and opportunities to ride a total of 14 hours. The focus is on climbing, descending, riding skills, nutrition and pacing, plus course briefings and race tactics.

The eighth annual Team MPI Long Course Camp will be held September 14-16 in Panama City Beach, FL. This camp is designed as preparation for IRONMAN Florida and includes swimming, biking, and running on portions of the course, transition practice, review of the athlete guide, and best practices and strategies for race day. This camp is led by Coaches Mark Turner, Laura Henry, and April Corey.
